WHAT IS A COLLAGRAPHY PRINT? THE TECHNIQUE OF PRINTING FROM COLLAGE-TYPE PLATE

MAKING THE PLATE: A collagraph is printed from a built-up collage-like plate made from a variety of materials such as textured fabrics, thread, metal, cardboard, foil, molding past, etc that is glued to a surface of cardboard or wood.

MAKING THE PRINT: After the plate is completed it is inked in one or more colors: Excess ink is removed; Special prepared paper is placed on top; Paper & plate are covered with felt blankets: All are passes through a printing press allowing the e wet paper to be pressed into the groves of the plate picking up the ink colored image.
